Autoexpress "THIS WEEK'S HOT KIT", Feb. 2012

PedalBox is claimed to sharpen up your car's throttle response.

Box clever for added thrills!

MORE and more cars now come with a 'sport' button to sharpen up the driving experience. But if yours doesn't, you can get similar results with an aftermarket kit.

The £230 DTUK Pedal Box works on diesel and petrol cars with a drive-by-wire throttle, and has a pair of sensors that sit between the ECU and the accelerator pedal. Software within the box sharpens the throttle response, so you needn't push as hard for maximum acceleration.

The simple System doesn't alter your car's power Output, and thus doesn't put additional stress on the engine. It shouldn't affect your insurance premiums, either.

The Pedal Box comes with four adjustable maps, specific to your make and model of car, and these alter the throttle Signal to a different level, which you define. So you can set the first setting to normal, make the second 35 per cent more responsive, the third 65 per cent more responsive and get maximum response from the top setting, for example. No matter which way you do it, you'll find a set-up to suit your driving style.

The box is said to be simple to fit. It's about the same size as a box of matches, with four preset controls and a dial to adjust the responsiveness.
This is the third generation of the PedalBox; the previous two have been on sale in Germany for the past year.
Postage is £6.95, but the kit has a three-year warranty, and if you buy online you can save 10 per cent on the £229 price.
